“Faith and grit. That’s what we hold. That’s how we, a non-essential B2B business, afloat amidst a pandemic,” shares Joerich M. Cuevas, President of Minbits (Mindanao Business and IT Solutions) Corp – a company that provides the best cloud accounting and ERP system, develops e-commerce platform, website and mobile applications, and offers other business digital solutions – in an event entitled “Entrepreneurship Journey of Local Micro Enterprises Amidst Pandemic” last December 13, 2020 at Robinson’s Place Iligan.

This event is organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation of Iligan or commonly known as Iligan Chamber of Commerce during its weeklong “Christmas Trade Fair” in partnership with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Iligan and other organizations and stakeholder.

DTI-Iligan chose the speakers for the “Entrepreneurship Journey of Local Micro Enterprises Amidst Pandemic.” The speakers are owners and/or managers of micro enterprises that was able to survive or afloat amidst the pandemic. By law, a micro enterprise is a business whose total asset does not exceed P3,000,000.00, excluding land. For comparison, a small enterprise has a total asset of P3,000,001.00 to P15,000,000.00.

The speakers of the events are Jim of Don Carlos Donuts and DC Crabs, Rachel of Full House Halo-halo, and Joerich of Minbits Corp. They share how the pandemic affects their sales negatively and what are the strategies that they did to pivot their business and survive the pandemic.

Although Jim and Rachels sales declined, they were able to pivot by implementing new strategies like utilization of local suppliers, re-inventing and improving their products, and finding ways to directly deliver their products to consumers who are at home and are afraid to go out because of the pandemic. Being a B2C (business-to-consumer) enterprise offering essential goods or services, they were able to pivot their respective business in a short period of time. It may be hard or challenging, but the pivot is fast.
